| | | EXTRA BASE CLUB Little League Baseball is about more than just bigs hits, awesome catches and extra bases on the field. Little League Baseball makes the following pledge
"...Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists youth in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes." The following are some of the current Norwell Little League players that have reached that "Extra Base" off the field. Hitting the Right Notes Congratulations to Jack Dargon (Major League Diamond Backs) and Liam Quinn (Minor League Braves) for being recognized as Platinum Band All-Stars at the Cole School. Jack plays the saxophone and Liam plays the flute. They are both members of the Fifth Grade Cole-Vinal Jazz Band as well. Congratulations to Vinal School Gold Band All-Stars Robbie Blakelsee (Minor League Braves) and Jake Bennett (Major League Braves). To become a Band All-Star requires a lot of hard work and independent practice. Students must play specific songs from their music books with no mistakes. To be recognized as a Gold All-Star, students must learn and play 50 songs! This year marks the first that any student has achieved the Platinum Level. To be recognized as Platinum All-Stars, Jack and Liam had to achieve five goals: become Gold All-Stars in Book 2 (that's an additional 40 songs), learn 19 scales, learn a solo for their instrument, play a special piece with the other platinum all-stars and master 2 pages of rhythm studies. WOW! Keep up the good work. |
Budding Artist Taylor Brosnan's drawing of the Cole School was one of 15 selected as winners from 4,000 entrants in the Massachusetts School Building Authority's "My Ideal School" contest. Taylor is in the Farm League this year. The contest asked children from across the state to draw a picture and write a few sentences about their ideal school. The goal of the contest was to promote discussions within classrooms about how school design can help promote learning. As shown in the photo to the left, Taylor received her award from State Treasurer, Jim Cahill, at a ceremony held on the steps of the State House in early May. Also attending the ceremony were her parents Susan and RJ, her brother Jared and Sue Aprea, her teacher. Way to go Taylor! |
